The International Food Policy Research Institute, a CGIAR Research Centre, has been working with ISEAL and Evidensia for over three years.  Our collaboration addresses challenges in developing value-chains that can provide food to retailers whilst generating livelihoods for farmers and reducing the carbon footprint of agriculture.

Project summary

The CGIAR Initiative on Rethinking Food Markets aims to provide evidence on which innovations and policies are most effective for creating equitable income and employment in food markets whilst reducing the environmental footprint.  

Joint activities under this project include:  

  • Supporting the development and maintenance of a knowledge sharing platform (KISM) that links with Evidensia.
  • Developing guidance notes for actors interested in advancing inclusive and sustainable food value-chains.
  • Transforming meta studies, reports, and other research activities undertaken by the initiative into digestible blogs and webinars.
  • Facilitating stakeholder dialogues to discuss the initiative’s research findings and the implications for innovation and practice.  

Geographic focus

In collaboration with local partners, we worked to test initiatives in markets and value chains in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Honduras.
