Robust monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) is at the heart of any credible sustainability system. But many organisations working in sustainability or other sectors face real challenges in building and maintaining effective MEL systems that generate meaningful insights, feed continuous improvement and drive change.

This training course, consisting of three interactive 2-hour online sessions, will guide participants through the fundamentals of MEL, from building the conceptual foundations of a system, to measuring performance, understanding evaluations and impact, and communicating results through credible claims.

You will:

  • Understand the key elements of an MEL system and how to build strong foundations, including developing a Theory of Change.
  • Learn how to identify meaningful indicators, structure data collection activities, and understand the basics of data management and governance.
  • Discover the key concepts behind outcome and impact evaluations, including causality and attribution.
  • Explore how to create organisational value from MEL data by building a learning organisation and fostering a culture of evidence-based decision-making.
  • Understand the principles of communicating results and learn what makes an impact claim credible and well-founded.
  • Engage with course concepts through group discussions and peer exchange.

Trainers:

  • Alaa Karadamour - Manager, Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (ISEAL)
  • Elise Boileau - Associate Manager, Data Insight (ISEAL)
  • Becky Mackenzie - Coordinator, Digital Innovations (ISEAL)
