On 22 July, the European Commission launched a Call for Evidence on the future simplification of environmental legislation. The package aims to reduce administrative burden stemming from environmental legislation in the areas of circular economy, industrial emissions, and waste management. ISEAL welcomes this step by the European Commission to seek evidence on simplifying and streamlining environmental administrative requirements. We are encouraged that this initiative aims to reduce administrative burden, avoid duplication, and simplify compliance while safeguarding the EU environmental ambition.
ISEAL is an independent thought leader on credible sustainability action and supports voluntary sustainability systems (VSS) to drive impact. Drawing on the expertise and experience of our Community of Members, we suggest that compliance with high standards is possible without dilution by focusing on continuous improvement, incentive-based approaches, and credible action. We make three points for consideration in this Omnibus proposal.
