Seafood voices: A resilient, responsible and sustainable seafood sector

Empowering small-scale seafood producers is a cornerstone of a sustainable seafood future. Small-scale seafood producers have historically been overlooked, yet they are not marginal actors—they are crucial contributors to global food security, ocean governance, and wider sustainability goals.

ISEAL is engaging with stakeholders across the seafood sector – producers, companies, investors, researchers and NGOs - to develop understanding and take action to address the inequities in seafood markets and adopt more inclusive approaches.

Working with our members we have also been working to strengthen monitoring approaches with a focus on unrepresented and often marginalised producers. Improving measurement approaches will help measure progress towards fair and inclusive markets.

Here we share perspectives from four sector leaders - voices from the Fishing Industry Association of PNG, Fish Tales, Finance Earth, and WorldFish. Their experiences highlight why equity matters for seafood sustainability and how leaders from across the sector are adapting their approaches to deliver more equitable outcomes.
