Credible climate claims start with credible data. As climate action accelerates, sustainability systems need to evolve to support robust greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting and climate-related claims. There’s a growing disconnect between data collected at field-level and system-level climate reporting expectations.
To close this gap, Value Change Initiative will develop technical guidance for aligning certification data with emerging GHG accounting frameworks. To ensure broad applicability across sectors and geographies, the project will pilot the guidance in several sustainability systems, validate it across multiple stakeholders (including GHG standard-setters, corporate sustainability teams, and value-chain participants), and develop training materials for assurance and technology providers.
This framework will define how data-driven sustainability systems should be structured, verified, and managed to align with robust GHG accounting frameworks, ensuring sustainability systems can support credible climate claims and remain relevant in an evolving regulatory landscape.
