Buyers and regulators now expect ESG impact data – e.g., carbon, water, social – beyond a simple “certified” label. Sustainability systems must verify that data and ensure claims are accurate, so chain of custody models must evolve to meet these needs.
Bonsucro will create a high-level chain of custody and assurance framework to guide operator controls and audits, building on models and controls outlined in previous work. This will allow data for impact claims to be transmitted and audited consistently and credibly along the supply chain. The scope will include claims on GHG emissions, social compliance (e.g., living wages), and deforestation-free.
The framework will inform Bonscuro’s ongoing chain of custody (mass balance) standard revision and provide a starting point for other schemes looking to offer performance impact claims to adapt to their own systems – future-proofing sustainability systems by assisting them in meeting evolving consumer and legislation demands.
