Small-scale farmers are vital to sustainable production, yet they often struggle with limited resources, unequal power in supply chains, and an unfair share of economic benefits.
This initiative aims to address these issues by adding new measures of sustainability — like water conservation and soil health — into the RSB Book & Claim System. By working closely with farmers and testing how these environmental benefits can be tracked and verified, the project hopes to show how these efforts can translate into better incomes for smallholders.
It will also explore whether the market is willing to pay for these broader impacts, unlocking new financial opportunities for farmers committed to sustainable practices. At its heart, this work seeks to ensure that the people who contribute most to sustainable production get the support and rewards they deserve.
