ISEAL Sustainability Policy Forum

Advancing sustainability: the role of credible schemes in Europe and beyond

1 October 2025 | Brussels

ISEAL’s Sustainability Policy Forum event will bring together policymakers, regulators and sustainability experts to explore the future of the sustainability agenda in Europe and beyond, and the role of credible sustainability schemes.

This event will come at a crucial moment for sustainability

As the EU reviews and refines its sustainability agenda, the debate is wide open on how best to advance sustainability while ensuring policy coherence, simplification, and enhancing business competitiveness. This is a pivotal moment to shape how voluntary and mandatory approaches can work together to support long term environmental, social, and economic goals.

Speakers will include policymakers from key European institutions, sustainability practitioners from leading standards schemes, and invited representatives from civil society, business, and producers.

The programme will focus on how credible sustainability schemes can complement and strengthen evolving EU legislation on due diligence, climate, and green claims and also the value of driving a smart mix approach to sustainability impacts.

Join us to shape the dialogue and future of sustainability implementation in the EU and beyond

Key questions we will explore include:

  • What direction is sustainability policy in Europe taking and what are implications for the sustainability movement?
  • How can mandatory laws and voluntary instruments reinforce each other to advance the sustainability agenda?
  • How can we inform and strengthen mandatory regulation by drawing on the decades of experience that multistakeholder sustainability schemes have in implementing voluntary requirements?
  • How do we recognise credible market-based practices in the context of sustainability due diligence, green claims, forced labour, and reporting and disclosure?
  • How can leveraging voluntary sustainability systems enhance the reputation, resilience, and competitiveness of EU businesses and markets?
