The ISEAL Innovations Fund launched a call in July 2024 for Community Members to submit expressions of interest for project ideas responding to the theme: Collective action to improve producer and SME resilience and address barriers to sustainable land use and livelihoods improvement.

Thematic grant round overview

The ISEAL Innovations Fund is set to continue itscritical work supporting ISEAL Community Members and their partners with innovative and collaborative projects until 2027.

This is possible thanks to generous donor support from the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO and UK International Development from the UK government.

Amidst growing interest and attention on sustainability in global value chains, there is growing consensus that global sustainability challenges are complex problems that require coordinated efforts from different actors to solve.

In 2024, the ISEAL Innovations Fund is focused on innovations that enhance sustainable production and land use for producers and the role of sustainability systems. We are continuing this thematic focus with our current grant round.

Thematic focus

We are excited to invite expressions of interest (EOIs) for projects that respond to the theme: Collective action to improve producer and SME resilience and address barriers to sustainable land use and livelihoods improvement.

This is an opportunity to build on learning to date and pilot or scale collaborative solutions and new tools or approaches that are aimed at supporting collective action to address systemic challenges:

Securing tenure and land rights
Expanding, strengthening and/or formalising producer or worker organisations
Developing mechanisms and tools to support collective action
Bundling or aligning services and interventions
Exploring, building, and testing new business models, new partnerships and/or place-based collaborations

Key details

Eligibility: The Fund is open to applications led by ISEAL Community Members, who can collaborate with other sustainability systems and/or organisations outside the ISEAL community.
Grants available. Between GBP 40,000 and GBP 150,000, with equal (1:1) match funding.
Duration. Projects up to 2 years, starting from January 2025.
Guiding principles. Values that should be embodied in all Fund supported projects.

Submission of EOIs

EOIs should be completed in an EOI template (available on the closed online platform for the ISEAL community) and submitted by the ISEAL Community Member leading the proposed grant by 09 September 2024.

The brief EOI template includes questions on:

The motivation for the project, what it hopes to achieve, and how.
The learning value for the project lead, partners, the ISEAL community, and beyond.
How it will contribute to the funding criteria specific to the relevant thematic call.

Selection process

Submitted EOIs are presented to a grant decision-making committee comprising ISEAL staff, external experts, and donors.

The committee selects a sub-set of EOIs it recommends for full proposal development, and ISEAL will work with successful applicants to develop detailed proposals.
