We are seeking input through a one-month public consultation on ISEAL’s new Credibility Tools Maintenance Procedure, which aims to ensure our definitions of credible practice remain trustworthy and globally recognised.

Our Credibility Tools are the ISEAL Code of Good Practice for Sustainability Systems (‘the ISEAL Code’) and the ISEAL Credibility Principles. Together, they define the core values and practices of credible and effective sustainability systems.

A robust procedure for maintaining these tools is critical to ensuring that they provide trustworthy definitions of credible practice, developed transparently through global multistakeholder processes and informed by real-world experience.

The procedure sets out how we will review and revise our Credibility Tools and how we will maintain their relevance and effectiveness between formal review cycles. Following the publication of the ISEAL Code in 2024, we now need a procedure that covers its ongoing maintenance and also brings the ISEAL Credibility Principles into scope.

The draft procedure has been developed in conjunction with the ISEAL Technical Committee. It builds on the previous ISEAL Code Development Procedure, draws on lessons from its recent application and aligns with relevant good practice in the ISEAL Code.

We are seeking input from stakeholders including sustainability systems, companies, government representatives, NGOs and other technical experts to ensure the procedure reflects good practice, balances efficiency and rigour, and sets out clear roles and responsibilities.

The consultation on the draft procedure is open from 1–30 September 2026.
