SBTi joins as an ISEAL Community Member

We are pleased to announce that Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) has been approved as an ISEAL Community Member. Their knowledge of voluntary science-based targets for companies will bring valuable insights to our growing community.

The SBTi is a corporate climate action organisation that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis. SBTi develop standards, tools and guidance which allow companies to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions targets in line with what is needed to keep global heating below catastrophic levels and reach net-zero by 2050 at latest.

Following approval by the ISEAL Board on 3 December 2025, ISEAL’s Executive Director, Karin Kreider, said: “I am delighted to welcome SBTi as an ISEAL Community Member. The science is clear – the climate crisis demands urgent action. We look forward to working with SBTi to continue improving their system and supporting robust, science-based practice.”

David Kennedy, CEO at SBTi, said: “Approval for Community Membership of ISEAL is a significant milestone for the SBTi, demonstrating that we are a trusted standard-setting organisation. This is a clear signal to the market of our commitment to principles like transparency, impartiality and collaboration. The SBTi has worked hard in recent years to elevate its systems and processes to ensure that companies can benefit from globally recognised standards and programmes that drive ambition to action.”

Our membership

ISEAL Community Members are sustainability systems and accreditation bodies dedicated to delivering benefits for people and planet. They are committed to continually improving their systems and impacts through learning and innovation; collaborating with stakeholders and peers; and are transparent and truthful about how their systems work and how they measure their impacts.

In becoming an ISEAL Community Member, SBTi joins a growing number of well-respected sustainability systems that are driving positive social and environmental change across multiple sectors. SBTi will be working alongside these mission-driven sustainability organisations to continuously improve the effectiveness of their systems and demonstrate impact.

We encourage any organisation developing or operating a sustainability system with a multi-stakeholder approach and a commitment to credible practices to consider joining ISEAL.
