Project summary
ISEAL is one of seven organisations working to deliver STAR4BBS, a project focused on assessing the potential of sustainability systems to support the transition to a sustainable bio-based economy.
A sustainable bioeconomy reduces carbon emissions and the reliance on non-renewable resources. Sustainability systems can play a key role in unlocking the potential of bio-based systems and supporting the implementation of new and existing EU legislation.
The project’s goal is to promote the use of circular, climate-neutral, sustainable bio-based systems, thereby mitigating climate change, and preserving natural resources. It will achieve this through:
- Creating a new monitoring system; developing indicators to assess the effectiveness and robustness of existing sustainability systems.
- Facilitating the harmonisation of sustainability systems and increasing transparency in bio-based value chains, distinguishing between certified and uncertified flows.
- Engaging stakeholders and policymakers, with the intent to increase awareness and uptake and use of effective and credible sustainability systems.
Project priority countries
This project focuses on the EU’s transition to a circular bioeconomy but considers sustainability systems operating globally.
Target audiences
- Sustainability systems
- EU Policymakers
