This project was a first for the industry and explored unique insights into the climate impacts of the jewellery and watch sectors. It assessed the types of actions needed to achieve global net zero targets, and how the RJC could advance the narrative for climate mitigation in the sector.
Previous climate research has focussed on specific materials or segments of the supply chain, but a holistic assessment of the industry had not been carried out. This project assessed the greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) of the industry through a life cycle assessment of a jewellery product from mine to retail. The research uncovered the GHG emissions involved at each stage of production, as well as analysed data availability, collection, and reporting at each stage of the process.
