Better Cotton and partners are piloting a robust first mile traceability system to support compliance with evolving regulations and strengthen supply transparency in Pakistan’s cotton sector. The project aims to enhance the accuracy and integrity of first mile traceability data through digitalisation and process innovation.
The key project objectives are:
- Identify and onboard key supply chain intermediaries
- Test the feasibility of capturing digital farm-sale data through deploying a first mile traceability app for intermediaries and ginners
- Assess the rollout and use of farmer ID cards
- Link farmer seed-cotton sales to ginner purchases within the Better Cotton Platform
The system is designed to reduce the burden on farmers by shifting validation responsibilities to intermediaries and ginners, while also enabling farmers to confirm the validation of their seed-cotton sales. By mapping every step of the first mile supply chain, the pilot will generate a consolidated set of learnings to support broader stakeholder adoption of effective traceability systems.
