As the regulatory landscape evolves, data becomes a critical asset for smallholder farmers operating in supply chains. Yet there is a risk of data being gathered from smallholders without farmers owning, managing, or having access to their data.
This project will pilot a business model for data ownership among cocoa cooperatives. It will develop a set of key principles for data ownership at the producer level to target supply chain actors, including cocoa brands and sustainability schemes.
By providing evidence for farmer-owned data, the project aims to shift power dynamics in the cocoa sector, empowering smallholders by giving them greater control over their information and influence in the supply chain.
